GRITS Girls

Ministry Projects

I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. ~John 9:4-5

1.  The first service project the "GRITS" girls was involved in was in October of 2008. They distributed candy, crayons, coloring sheets, boxed juices and Bible verses out to the children in their community who were trick-or-treating. The girls had just finished their study on Hannah. They learned the importance of sowing seeds from their study. Galatians 6:7-8, "...for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting." Pictured above are Jessica and Megan with the Trick-or-Treaters.

2.  On Wednesday November 2, 2008, a few of the GRITS girls helped to prepare plates for the needy and shut-ins for their Thanksgiving meal.

3.  On Monday, December 22, 2008, the local "GRITS" girls took Christmas gifts to the Backus Children's Hospital in Savannah. In earlier months the "GRITS" girls had offered babysitting services to raise money for the Backus Children's Hospital. They offered these services to those parents who needed some extra time to Christmas shop or to those who just needed a break from the business of life with small children. Although the babysitting services were at no charge, the "GRITS" girls did accept contributions. This project was a huge success. The girls raised over $600. The girls used this money to purchase Christmas gifts for the various children in the hospital. "GRITS" presented the gifts to the patients with candy canes and Bible verses for them to enjoy and read during their stay in the hospital. Among those who received gifts was four-year-old Rebecca. Rebecca's father had just returned home from Iraq when Rebecca became sick and had to be put in the hospital. Rebecca has a twin sister, Rachael, and a brother, Matthew.

4.  The GRITS girls had a bake sale to raise money for the Joshua Harrison family.  Mr. Harrison was a 7th-9th grade teacher at Pinewood Christian Academy.  The girls organized the sale and sold goods all through out the day on Tuesday, September 29.  The Bake sale was a huge success.  Both Junior high and Senior high GRITS girls were involved.  The girls raised $1290.  All profits were sent to the Harrison family.  Please visit our photo gallery to view more pictures of this event.

5. This past October, the GRITS girls made and gave away "Fall Goody Bags" for the K-4 class at Tattnall County High School, and the K-4, K-5, and faculty and staff of Pinewood Christian Academy.  The girls presented the bags to the students and teachers on Friday, October 30, 2009.  The facutly and teacher bags consisted of apples, pens, peppermints, and chocolate.  The student bags consisted of crayons, coloring sheets with Biblical verses, boxed juice, and candy.  Please visit our photo gallery to view more pictures of this event.

6. This December 09 the GRITS girls will be purchasing gifts for the less fortunate children in Tattnall County.  They will be doing this with the help of  DFACS.  (Angel Tree Ministry)  The GRITS girls chose names of children in Tattnall County who may not have  as much this Christmas.  The GRITS will be purchasing gifts and items for these children.  The gifts will be taken to DFACS the week of Christmas.  Pictured below is the group with their gifts before delivery and a Christmas trip to the Mall.  Pleases visit our photo gallery to view more pictures of this event.
